While there are some who won't go on a travel without someone accompanying them, there are also some (like me!)who would rather choose to go on solo. While traveling with someone seems always good, traveling solo has also its perks. Especially if you are the kind of person who wants to figure out something whether its about you, your life, your career, what's next or whatever.
I'm new in traveling. It's just my first year I guess, but I'm already used to traveling alone. And I would always prefer it. It is by choice most of the time. Though there are times that I would go with friends yet 90% of my trips are usually all by myself. With the adventurous heart that I have, I always find myself wandering at one place, and I just love it that way.
Well I guess the first major concern when traveling solo is security. But just like the blog the I've read before, common-sense and enough knowledge is the key. You can go search the internet about the place you want to go and plan your itinerary ahead. But don't forget to welcome unexpected things to happen along the way, It will make your trip more worthwhile. Just be ready!
There are a lot of perks of traveling solo. I tried to list some of them which I hope can help you decide if you're in it or not.
1. Freedom/Independence
When traveling solo, you will feel a certain freedom. When you're all alone, you can do whatever you want, go wherever you want, eat, walk, sleep whenever you want! You have a whole hold of your time. You can do the craziest things that you can't do when you're with someone. Or you can just simply wander around without worrying for someone's opinion or welfare. You are all by yourself.
2. Alone doesn't really mean alone
If you know what I mean. Being alone on a trip doesn't mean you need to be alone the whole time. You can meet different people along the way. In your travels, you will surely meet solo travelers like you and you will for sure do some small talks, or share some ideas about the places you've both visited. You can mix with locals, ask them about their lives and they will share some good thoughts (though there are bad as well) that will surely make your trip even meaningful.
3. Time to Rediscover Yourself
If you want to call it soul searching. Then be it. Traveling solo will give you all the means to rediscover yourself. Sometimes, going out of your box, or out of your daily routine can help you discover new things about yourself. And you'll be surprised on what you will discover as you go on. Things that you might not know if you didn't step out in your own little world. It can also give you time to breathe. Breathe from all the work or academic hassles you are into almost all your life.
4. Time to Enjoy, Relax and be Happy
Traveling solo can still be fun and enjoyable if you want to. Its just a matter of choice! Like the usual saying, your happiness is in your hands. While on your trip, do whatever you want that can make you happy. Play on the waters, ride a bike, talk to locals, eat great food, watch the sunset, sleep on the sand whatever.. Traveling solo will give you all the time to just think about yourself. And besides, you deserve all the happiness in the world like anyone else.
Aside from these, there are still a whole lot more, but for now these are enough for you to pack your things, book your flight and be on board for your first solo travel. You might write something like this in the future with more perks of traveling solo. You'll surely add more on this list along the way as you experience it all by yourself. And when you get back home after every solo trip. I bet, everything will never be the same again.
